Rafa’s Retirement
I knew this was coming at some point. You could see it three to four years ago. Rafa is a prideful man, and rightfully so. I thought he’d be one of those guys you’d have to drag off the court. On the other hand, he has a history of sitting out if he doesn’t feel he can maintain his standard. So I respect it.
It’s laughable to think one human being won a single major tournament 14 times. When we discuss dominance in sports, any credible argument should have the King of Clay in consideration, considering his competition in the era he played.
Let’s not act like we don’t remember a time when you could bet your mortgage—and your car— that either Men’s Grand Slam Final was going to include either: Federer, Djokovic, Murray, or Nadal.
Thank you Rafa for your grit, tenacity, stubbornness, and relentlessness on every point and every serve; even your OCD towel-down routines will be missed. You are a true champion and competitor. You never cheated us and you never cut corners. Not even on your way to the ball girl or back to the bench, when you obsessively refused to NOT walk over the logo. Every. Single. Time.
Robert Saleh’s Departure
If I were Robert Saleh, A. Rodg would have to delete my number.
There’s no way in the world I believe his hands are clean regarding the Jets HC’s departure.
It’s hypocritical to show his face on the PMS Tuesday, wondering why people thought he had “so much power”.
Remember that one time he told us he was immunized?? Yeah me too.
Phillies Early Exit
I was telling all Phillies fans back in May & June to pipe down with all the parade talk. Nobody cares you have the best record in the league when it’s too hot to even sit in the park.
We’re not even halfway through October and Citizens Bank Park is closed for the season. I mean, we didn’t even get to a sixth game. What happened to “prolific-unstoppable-death-lineup??
Don’t look now, but dating back to the last post-season, the Phillies have lost 5 of the previous 6. Eww.
Let’s go Sixers!
WNBA Expansion / Growth
We can all agree this past season was wildly successful. I’m sure The W’s top brass hoped for a breakout year. Not like this, however. Minus the online drama and racism, the buffet was full.
Whichever side you stan’d for— CC or Reese — there was a protagonist & antagonist role to be played. Not until the home stretch of the season could we definitively say who would win the ROY.
Rather than overshadowing, the specter of Caitlyn Clark’s rookie season only highlighted the talent that had been just beneath our noses the entire time.
Arike, Dijonai, Napheesa, A’ja. They’re not out the peripheral anymore and we certainly don’t look to see them.
Unsurprisingly, the success of the 2024 season has made room for another franchise to sit at the table, the Golden State Valkyries. Teams will have four more games to play in the regular season, with the WNBA Finals crescendoing in a seven-game series, replacing the five-game format.
Shoutout to growth!
October = SPORTS
I love October. Every day of the week I know for a fact there’s a competitive ball game on. Playoff baseball is in ascent, peaking just as the NBA is stretching its legs.
What’s there to say about Sunday? It’s football from 1 pm til damn near midnight.
And now that the brilliant minds at the NFL roundtable have decided to give us games in a different timezone (London, Germany), I have a ball game to go with my pancakes.
My Saturdays have been “commandeered” by the EPL, La Liga & slate of College Football.
It doesn’t stop there, my brother’s turned me into an F1 nerd, not to mention Drive To Survive on Netflix. Every sport needs a little parity. Dynasties will only be tolerated for so long. Red Bull had its day, but Lando turned a corner (pun) after the Miami podium. Confidence is a hell of a drug.
At the end of the day, I’m a really simple man, truly.
Games, matches, races, and I’m good.
